This week was a great end to the summer holidays with a very successful Cul Camp managed by our departing GPO Paul Wilde. A big thank you to Paul for the support he has given the club over the years and in the coming weeks we look forward to welcoming Gordon Mac An Bhaird who steps into the role.

As a club we are lucky to have committed mentors who put endless energy into managing and building their underage and adult teams. Most rewarding is the involvement of players in the club who are stepping into coaching roles and helping to support the promotion of hurling and camogie here in Oldtown and the surrounding villages.   Our recent open day was a great success with several new players joining us.  To keep the momentum and help build on this success, it is vital that we encourage all members to consider how they can get involved and support the running of the club.  In addition to the team of coaches on the playfield, we have a very small core team who effectively run the club, its administration, fundraising, planning, communication and oversee key initiatives such as our current pitch development.

The reality is that we need many more to get involved and help us to sustain the progress that’s being made and to ensure that the Wildgeese remains a vital part of the community and at the heart of social and sporting life of our children and our young adults.   As a small community based rural club - everyone’s contribution is valued and welcomed.

So how can you help?

Whether it’s simply one hour per week or more, your contributions will make a massive difference.  Parents of juvenile players can get involved in mentoring and helping to organise matches.   More broadly - we need to expand the team of people helping to run the club… whether its fundraising or taking on the administration of either juvenile or adult teams.  We encourage all members to think of the skills they use every day in their working lives and how the Geese can benefit from your involvement.  To our younger adult members, excellent development opportunities exist with training provided by the GAA & Camogie Associations on a host of skills.

What will this mean?
For the Club this will help us with our ambitions to not merely sustain but to grow the Wildgeese into a Hurling and Camogie Centre of excellence in North County Dublin. For the existing club leaders, it means vital support, necessary for the club to function. For you – it means the reward of the contribution to your community and the forging of social connections and friendships, as we celebrate our future successes.

Contact me on 086 6093245 to let me know how you would like to get involved or reach out to any other committee member.  We need your support.
